From La Fortuna To Tortuguero
Location & Recommendations
La Fortuna is located less than 3.5 hours from San José Airport. This is 82 Miles or 132 Km. You can always use the Highway 126 to get there.
If you visit Arenal before Tortuguero, we recommend first to take a private or shared transfer from San José, enjoy your stay and then we can set up the transportation to Guapiles to connect you with the Tortuguero staff.
We recommend to stay no more than 3 nights in La Fortuna, unless you have really planned your activities for more days.
From La Fortuna it is very easy to move to the northern Lowlands and to the northern Pacific.
From Arenal to Tortuguero
Very early today check out and continue with your transfer to Guapiles.
Here you will have breakfast and meet the lodge staff. Continue to La Pavona pier to take a boat to Tortuguero.
In the afternoon, after lunch, your guide will take you to the city for a cultural excursion.
We recommend that you visit The Sea Turtle Conservancy, a global conservation organization, offers a small but well-done visitor center (admission $ 2).
The museum and short video do a great job explaining how turtles live and breed and tell more about the Conservancy’s efforts.
They also teach visitors why Tortuguero Beach is so important to turtle survival and they have a small souvenir shop. The Center is an ideal activity for both adults and children.

From La Fortuna it is very easy to move to the northern Lowlands and to the northern Pacific.
From Tortuguero to Arenal
Once you have enjoyed your visit at Tortuguero you can continue to your next destination.
For instance it is very popular to return to San José if you left this destination for the last part of your itinerary, you can continue to Arenal, Cahuita, or Puerto Viejo de Limón.
You can get there by renting a car, taking a shuttle transfer or a private transfer from Tortuguero to any of this destinations

There many activities to do in Arena,, La Fortuna. You can go to do a hiking tour at Arenal Volcano, Zip line, whitewater rafting, Rappeling and many more
You can also enjoy the Caño Negro Tour or visit the Maleku Village in a cultural tour.
Adventure tours are available at La Fortuna , for instance Canopy, horse back ridding or visit the waterfall, ATV tours, La Fortuna is worldwide famous for the hotsprings.
